So I completed my original commitment to the corporation plus a year.

When I first agreed to move way up north to take over a flailing regional office, I wanted some assurance this wasn’t forever. I’m a southern guy who isn’t in the winter season business. And recognizably not in the winter season corporation that requires a gas furnace or a boiler just to survive. I mean, it’s been six years & I still had a space boiler under my desk last winter. That’s why I didn’t feel so awful about giving a bit of an ultimatum. I’d done my part & waited another year to get back to the land of the heat pump. And I was just truly straight forward about what I expected. Either they figured out how to get me back to the zone controlled Heating, Ventilation & A/C of the southern offices or I’d find my own way back with a weird dealer. It wasn’t a threat at all. I was just stating the facts. Fortunately, I didn’t have to find another task. I had been renting out my home the entire time so it was so relaxing to be home. The Heating, Ventilation & A/C component that installed a decade ago, when I bought the locale, was still going great. And think me, I’m so gleeful to be home. Getting back here at the end of September came with lots of Heating, Ventilation & A/C cooling. But knowing I’m getting back to the best 8 months of weather on earth is pretty exciting. I can hardly think what I’ve been missing out on all these years. Turns out that Springtime is absolutely a charming time of the year! This is news to me as I’ve dreaded the Springtime time since I was a little kid. It’s not because the air conditioning starts coming on or that I hate baseball season. I’ve been working as a heating and cooling specialist for 6 years. So far, the journey has been great and I love my job. I am the type of person who was undecided about my future in high school. My friends all had things mapped out from college to work. But, I felt like I wanted to travel and see the world. One summer, my aunt surprised me with a trip abroad and this was the best experience. It opened me to a whole new world of possibilities. This prompted me to work different part time jobs and save. After graduation, I hit the road and began living a nomadic lifestyle. I’d work menial jobs in the different places I visited for 4 years. Eventually, I felt I had fulfilled that wish and went back home with a plan. I had worked for a HVAC company as an admin assistant and loved the job the cooling and heating specialists did. When I got back home, I enrolled in HVAC school with the aim of getting my HVAC certification. While in school, I worked part time for a heating and cooling business in the city. They were the ones who gave me my first and current job as a heating and cooling specialist. I feel I’ve grown so much in this position working for a great boss. My heating and cooling boss is the type of person who believes happy employees mean happy customers. And her policy works. Bob and Greg have been dating since college and are proud members of the LGBTQ community.

Bob has always had a supportive family and he came out at a young age.

However, Greg grew up in a staunch religious home so this has been a tough journey. He was barely out when they met in college, but Bob helped Greg get comfortable with his identity. Their love and friendship blossomed for many years, and recently they got legally married. Apart from tying the knot, the happy couple also became proud parents of a baby girl. A friend who knew they longed to be parents volunteered to be their surrogate. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl and the two parents have been doting on her ever since. They had bought a house in anticipation for the new arrival in their lives. Part of the preparation process was to have the HVAC system inspected. It would be unfair to ask him to wait for me when I wasn’t sure if I’d be back soon. Eventually, after 7 years abroad, I came back home during the pandemic period. Dad called with excellent news late last year. He was moving away. I was shocked because this was so sudden. But, I knew all would be well after he explained. On top of that, he’s also gotten a good service agreement which I believe will be quite beneficial.

Eventually, Glenn managed to get a commercial AC with an SEER rating of 18. It wasn’t cheap, but Glenn sees it as an investment for his business and also a good way to reduce energy consumption.

It’s important to live somewhere that you feel alive and fulfilled.

• Many people tend to love the city life and being where the skyscrapers light up at night.

But, for a long time, my desire was to be where there were no skyscrapers. This meant moving to a remote location where I could lay on the ground on a lovely summer night and see the stars. Luckily, I met and married a person who also had the same desires which was a huge plus. Eventually, we managed to save up and bought a small farm in another state. The goal has been to turn this into a self-sufficient place. Also, we aim to grow food that we can sell at the farmers markets as a source of income. Our house required lots of work since the wiring was bad, the plumbing almost non-existent and the heating and cooling a complete nightmare. Fortunately, there was another couple in the area who had made the move 5 years before and helped us so much. We got contacts from an excellent heating and cooling company that came by to install the HVAC system. We opted to go with a furnace and air conditioner. When one was running, the other could take a rest until the seasons changed. The first summer we spent on the farm was great since we got to sell the first produce from our farm. However, we were having a challenge with the cooling in our home. It seemed the air conditioner wasn’t blowing enough cool air to keep us comfortable. The HVAC company sent an HVAC expert to check and realized we needed a different thermostat. Once he made the switch, the difference was almost immediate which was great.

I know of some people who can sleep through anything. My dad is one of them. He is the sort of person who can sleep through the craziest things. One time we had a neighborhood emergency that had everyone heading outside at 1 am. But, dad never moved an inch. A neighbors AC compressor had blown which sounded like a bomb. We all heard it and jumped out of bed. But, not dad. He only heard about this in the morning and was so mad we didn’t wake him up. Anyway, I am the opposite of my dad. As a light sleeper, anything small can disrupt my sleep. This is why I have invested in a good HVAC system for my house. I also got a dehumidifier since I hate sweating. At times the humidity levels are so high that I need more than just the HVAC system to enjoy indoor comfort. Last summer, I traveled to this small beach town to unwind and booked a beach rental house. It was located far away from the crowds, and had a good AC to keep me cool. My only issue was the beach rental didn’t have a dehumidifier and I had forgotten to pack mine. That first night at the beach rental was brutal since I could barely sleep a wink. The humidity was so high that I kept adjusting the thermostat in an effort to cool off. But, nothing I did made it easy to sleep. I opted to take a cool shower, wait for morning and head to town to buy a dehumidifier. This was the only way I was going to survive a week in this beach rental.
