But I suggested that since the kids in my wife’s family are all almost grown now, maybe her parents would like to come to us for Christmas. To my surprise, her parents were thrilled with the idea and we ended up having just the best time together. I suppose that I’m just completely loving the fact that it’s winter.

That’s not the case for many people directly to the north of me.

I simply can’t imagine residing with that sort of cold, snow plus ice, however plus, I’d have to have a gas furnace or a boiler of some sort as the heat pump just couldn’t get it done in that sort of cold, then for sure, I like this time of year because the heat pump isn’trunning plus our rapidly changing temperatures are almost perfection. It’ll be that way for the rest of this month plus January pretty much. But once all of us start getting into the heart of May, the rapidly changing temperatures will rise. Thankfully, all of us have relaxing residential HVAC in our house to take care of all the cooling all of us need. Ever since the covid pandemic, I’ve been more aware of the importance of indoor air quality.

I’ve read that indoor air is typically five times more polluted than outdoor air.

Improvements such as new windows, added insulation, caulking and weatherstripping help to increase the efficiency of the furnace and air conditioner. However, these efforts eliminate natural ventilation. With no fresh air coming in, the indoor environment becomes stale, stuffy and polluted. A steady influx of contaminants are introduced into the breathing air by way of the regular activities such as cooking, cleaning and showering. Pets, pesticides, the furnace and air conditioner all add to the problem. Dust, pollen, dander, mold spores, VOCs and other toxins get trapped inside. They cause major health concerns. Headaches, congestion, insomnia, irritated symptoms of allergies and asthma, sneezing and coughing are some of the consequences. Unfortunately, there are very few times of year when I can open the windows and freshen up the house. When my husband and I were first married, we decided to move south.

We’d spent our entire lives in the northeastern part of the country, where the weather is wet and chilly for the majority of the year.

We were tired of the need to shovel snow, scrape ice, carry an umbrella and drive a four-wheel-drive vehicle. We were ready to say goodbye to sub zero temperatures, gray skies and enormous heating bills. My husband had the opportunity to attend welding school and achieve his certification, and I found a really wonderful nanny position. We relocated in the early part of January. We left behind a blizzard and drove toward steadily warmer temperatures. The weather in our new location was absolutely beautiful, with lots of sunshine and blue skies. We were delighted by the palm trees. We rented an apartment on the second floor of an older building. By the end of January, winter was definitely over and the temperature climbed into the high eighties. It didn’t take long for the triple digits and humidity to become unbearable. We quickly discovered that the small and ancient air conditioner in our apartment couldn’t keep up with demand. Because heat rises, our living space is constantly overheated. We invested into a window air conditioner and several box fans. We took multiple cool showers every day. When my husband completed his welding course, we were ready to move back north. We decided to choose a location in-between where we grew up and our southern apartment. We found a spot where neither heating or cooling are essential for more than half the year.

I’ve been eating quite a bit of sweets over the holidays and can see the new fat on my stomach where before there wasn’t so much.

Now I am going to cut out all sugar and start my clean diet that I was doing earlier in the year.

Well, today started a new year so what I really mean is earlier last year. I think I can be back in the shape I was last summer if I clean up my diet for about three or four months. If I start doing more HVAC duct repairs in the summer like I used to do, I will lose that weight even faster because of all of the work it takes to do the jobs. I think the biggest contributor of fat on the stomach is the sugar and the lack of exercise as it has been too cold to play beach volleyball. The duct cleaning and duct sealing job has also been put on the back burner since coming to the States for a month vacation. I will go for a run later in the park behind us and do some TRX strap workouts for the rest of my body. My aunt wants me to help her with her geothermal heat pump and maybe look at her hybrid HVAC system if I have enough time. I am going to hang out with a buddy later but not until I get my writing and exercise done. The local service provider friend of mine is going to come over for the workout so I need to get this done.

My sisters don’t talk to me anymore after my dad died because I didn’t come home for his celebration of life party, which I had no desire to go to.

• I didn’t care about coming back to a party, one in which my dad wouldn’t be at, just to talk about what a great guy he was to other people who already knew the fact.

My sisters didn’t see things that way, and now that I am home they still don’t try to contact me, even after I have messaged them a few times before. My dad did air conditioning installs and sold a bunch of cooling products for his local business. My one sister worked with him over the years and I think he left most of his empire to her, which is fine with me because I can earn my own money and am not worried about having all this money. I work on programmable thermostats and I sell HEPA filters for my local contractor friend online. I also make money doing a few other jobs here and there and can always earn money when I need to. I guess when I am older I could do some indoor air quality testing in homes and help people install air purification systems in their homes with some help from an HVAC tech. I will work till I can no longer move my body, so I am not too worried about saving all of this money for a retirement that may never arrive. I will always do some kind of work in the HVAC technology field.
