I’ve had the most disgusting experience as of recently; I have an infestation of German cockroaches in our ductworks.

So why is it important what kind of roach they are? Well it’s because if you know anything about German cockroaches you know that they are horribly invasive and can rapidly create an infestation in your cabin if you are not careful.

If you see one I guarantee you there are more. I do not know how these horrible little things got into our ductworks and started breeding, however I do feel they need to go, and go quickly. There were multiple choices available on the market to get rid of them, everything from sprays to poison, however I wasn’t going to deal with all that, I was just going to hire a professional and have them do all the work. Since it is difficult for me to even reach our ductworks, this is the best option. I called our pest control woman and she came out and sprayed our ductworks and then cleaned them out thoroughly. Once she was finished, I had a heating and AC serviceman come out and inspect the ductworks to make sure that it was clean. I asked the worker and she told myself and others that I should be fine using our heating and cooling system. After finally getting rid of them using the exterminator, I was so relieved to have our heating and cooling plan back. The moment I saw just a few of them in our house I wanted to evacuate and burn the whole house down. Maybe it sounds a little extreme, however I can’t stand the sight of bugs.

One day I noticed that I started to see bugs crawling around in our house. It all started with one that crossed the living room floor while I was making breakfast, and then there was another encounter where I saw one that was on our couch while I was enjoying tv. Then I saw one on the wall while in the powder room and I started to freak out because what I thought was just one incident of a bug getting in from outside was turning into me starting to see multiple bugs inside our house. I started looking all over our house to see if I could find where these insects were coming from, however no matter where I looked I couldn’t find any locales that showed where they were emerging from. So eventually I just gave up and I hoped they would just disappear, but the concern only got worse. I started seeing more and more and then I started noticing a line of them crawling up our wall. I followed the line and noticed that they were coming out of the air vent. That’s when it hit me, they were up in the air conditioner! I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to call a heating, ventilation and A/C specialist or an exterminator. I live in the south, and so sporadically my buddy and I have these massive insects, cockroaches identifiably, that come in from outside. They’re horrible and disgusting and I wanted to get rid of them as soon as possible. I called our heating and AC specialist first because I decided it’d definitely be best for myself and others to confirm that I did have an infestation in our air vents. The cooling specialist came out and took a look and confirmed I did have bugs in our air vent and that is where they were coming from. She suggested that I should have an exterminator come and get rid of them first and then afterwards she can come back out and do a cleaning, and so I agreed to this.

Have you ever given a washable air filter try? I have, and at first I wasn’t going to give it a watchful eye, but ultimately I decided to because I wanted to go and try something different, especially after using disposable air filters all my life in our heating, ventilation and A/C unit. In our circle of friends, washable air filters were all that people were talking about. Three people were spreading word around as a life hack, and they are saying that it was much easier to use a washable air filter than to use a disposable air filter. I thought about it and I was wondering if using a washable air filter was worth the price, or would it be cheaper to continue to buy the disposable air filters? There’s only one way to find out, and so I went down to our local heating and AC dealer to compare some prices. What I found was that the washable air filters were definitely a little bit more costly, however this was no big deal because they were reusable and could be used for many years. I decided that I would go ahead and give it a try and I picked one up when I was there at the heating and AC business. When I put it in there and a few months later it was dirty, I realized it was time to clean it. It was kind of quick to clean because it was far easier than I expected it to be. All I had to do was take a vacuum cleaner and suck all the dirt out of it, and it was good as new again. These washable filters really are great, and I want to continue using these instead of our disposable air filters from now on.

After some convincing from a buddy of mine, I finally decided that I’m going to go ahead and try to get a UV light filter. I have never used a UV light filter before, however everything that I have heard about them has been honestly positive. What I prefer about UV light filters is that they kill germs on contact, even filters like HEPA filters cannot do that. HEPA filters are designed in a completely different way, and those filters work by catching the tiniest particles and bacteria that are floating around in the air. Those types of filters are made for catching anything that comes in contact with them. The benefit that UV light filters have over HEPA filters is that they can kill germs right away. With the use of a filter, there is still a chance that something is tiny enough to get through and float around and lower your air quality. This is not possible with the UV light filter though. But there is one drawback to UV light filters, which is that they are run by a bulb, and not all bulbs have to be changed out, so you have to check on your bulb sporadically to make sure that it has not burned out. I bought one of the UV light filters from the heating, ventilation and A/C business and got it successfully installed onto our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system. Now it is time to just sit back and wait and see how it does.

I’m completely relying on our central air conditioning plan to do all the cooling for myself and others, and now I’m not going to have anything to keep myself cool in the home that I live in.

My air conditioning plan lately has been making some odd sounds, and hearing me say this sounds like it’s something that I don’t enjoy too much. I’m sad that our a/c is breaking down again, because the last thing I want is our air conditioning to stop working, as it is all I have to keep myself and others cool. I feel that there are some people that have window air conditioning units, or ductless mini split a/c units to keep themselves cool, however I do not have either of those. I’m completely relying on our central air conditioning plan to do all the cooling for myself and others, and now I’m not going to have anything to keep myself cool in the home that I live in. This is a drastic concern because I live in desert weather conditions where the temperatures are absolutely scorching hot. You must have an air conditioning plan here, as it’s dangerous not to have any kind of way to cool yourself down. The heating and AC dealers make a lot of cash here because they are always selling air conditioning units and AC supplies! Another popular thing that the heating and cooling supplier sells here is a lot of air filters, and they do this because of how much dust ends up in people’s heating and cooling systems. I’m not just going to sit here and do nothing when our heating and cooling plan is making odd noises, I’m going to get it taken care of and schedule an appointment with our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C corp.

I’ve been working in the heating, ventilation and A/C industry for more than 2 years now, however after being in it for a long time I’m looking to finally retire.

I really prefer working as a heating and AC serviceman, in fact, I have enjoyed it so much that it’s something that I would not mind doing even after I have retired.

What I really prefer about heating and AC work is that the job is easy and our dealer pays well for our work. And it’s appealing to see somebody be honestly thrilled after using the air conditioning system or furnace unit. I have seen some people that have been without air conditioning for weeks, and then I come along and repair the air conditioning unit and they are just so relieved and thrilled because now they are no longer under the tepid heat in their cabin, sweating to death all the time and now they can finally relax. I have also been fortunate enough to meet some really nice people, there are some really nice families out there too. I have also had people that invited me to stay over at their home and just hang out with them for a while. But for as much as I have enjoyed being a heating, ventilation and A/C pro, I do realize that now is the time for me to retire. I’m ready to just sit back and relax and enjoy the rest of my golden years. I have been laboring all my life and now I’m ready for the long break that I deserve.

The amount of business that is actually conducted in person these days is surprisingly low. It was pretty obvious that technological advancements were responsible for that trend. Compared to hiring actual employees to serve the customer, using automated systems was much less expensive. Though I miss it. Sometimes I’ll try to get assistance for hours while sitting in my home office’s central air conditioning. But the options are essentially limited to emailing some nameless, voiceless customer service department. The ideal outcome is that I might engage in a live online chat with a customer service representative. But even that is extremely rare and frustrating. Therefore, I’m enjoying myself immensely when people like my HVAC professionals exist rather than freaking out and being angry about this trend. When we first moved here to begin new jobs and eventually a family, about 30 years ago, we met some of these people. The outdated heat pump was replaced when we first moved in by the local HVAC company that we use. And just a year ago, the same HVAC experts upgraded the heat pump’s HVAC system with the most recent residential models. The HVAC company’s phone has always been picked up during all of this time. These HVAC experts have consistently been available to assist us in any way they can. Every autumn for heating maintenance, they were there. And once more in the spring to perform the air conditioning maintenance. Up until the final heat pump was getting close to its end, we never had a problem. The HVAC company came right away to assist us with that HVAC repair, even at that point. The same HVAC specialists were also delighted to visit our home and assist us in selecting the incredible HVAC technology that we now have. They were always willing to assist.

The summer this year is something I’m actually looking forward to.

• I typically don’t feel like that.

I usually feel sad that the perfect weather of winter is coming to an end as March approaches. My heat pump doesn’t get much use because of how mild the winters are here, which is one of the reasons I enjoy living here. The fear of summer’s oppressive heat and humidity, however, comes with the arrival of spring. Even with fantastic residential HVAC as we have, the level of heat in this area can be oppressive. I’m thrilled to own a fantastic home with top-notch heating and air conditioning provided by a fantastic heat pump. However, because I prefer more cooling than the rest of the family during the hottest parts of the year, I also feel a little out of place in my own house. For two reasons, however, my wife is a thermostat hawk. Her higher heat tolerance is a result of her thinness. She detests overpaying for heat pump cooling comfort as well. I’m just on the verge of being a fat man who enjoys as much air conditioning as possible. That won’t happen because I’m moving somewhere else; it will happen this summer. But I do have my own space inside the house where, if I want to, I can turn on the air conditioning. In the garage, I installed a ductless heat pump. I’m not breaking the house rules about reducing air conditioning costs because this HVAC technology is so effective. I do believe that this summer I will be enjoying life because it’s the garage and I’m the only one there.

Before we finally decided to move to the south, it really did come down to the wire.

Our company was founded by my wife and me more than 20 years ago.

We grew up in a northern region where a gas furnace or boiler ran continuously for more than five months every winter. Still, it was all we were familiar with, and we were totally committed to the success of our business. We succeeded in achieving that goal and eventually sold the business for a staggering sum of money. the kind of money that indicated we could retire at 45. We weren’t parents and our work had been our shared passion, so when we sold the business, we were initially at a loss. We upgraded the heating and cooling system to get the best price because we were certain we needed more space. We weren’t really sure what to do next, though, because the house sold so quickly. In favor of the sun and a heat pump, we had always wished to do away with the winter and the gas furnace. Therefore, we decided to just go ahead and do that. After packing and downsizing our possessions, we bid farewell to the only area we were familiar with. We initially looked into more permanent options while renting a really nice house. However, this home was equipped with the most up-to-date residential HVAC and every HVAC innovation that makes living in the south comfortable. We were happy to experience our first summer with the best air conditioning we could have asked for because the summers down here are no joke.

My parents passed away fairly soon.

Both of them passed away two years apart. And a disease struck both of them simultaneously, which was at least mercifully quick. But my wife’s parents were very fond of her, and I’m glad she got to know them. Her parents don’t operate in that manner. When I first met them, they were as icy toward me as a thermostat set to the sixties. And not much has really changed over the years. Simply put, I wasn’t the right choice for their daughter. We ultimately moved here after getting married, and I’m from the South. This distanced their daughter even more. Not only was I not wealthy, but I also belonged to the wrong political party. Nevertheless, we had a nice three-bedroom house with central air conditioning, so we could live comfortably. My office is located in one of the bedrooms, and I installed a ductless heat pump there. But as time passed, it became increasingly obvious that the in-laws wanted to relocate so they could be nearer to us. I contributed by locating them exactly where they needed to be. It was a nice condo on a golf course, and all the HVAC system required was a replacement. Before they moved in, I had the HVAC company replace the residential HVAC after they bought it. However, the ductwork needed to be replaced because it was in poor shape. I then began to consider the ductless heat pump I have in my office. In the end, the HVAC experts decided on a ductless multi split system. Unbelievably, my in-laws are thrilled with the ductless heat pumps as well.

The order and cleanliness of the house is something we all want to keep from bothering me about. I consider myself lucky to reside in such a lovely setting with such excellent heating and air quality and numerous conveniences. I have, however, always been a complete neat freak since I was a young child. Cleaning seemed to be a coping strategy, in my opinion. My home had more than its fair share of conflict and drama when I was growing up. It had a significant negative impact on me. When things got heated and unpleasant at my mom’s house, I always felt a little out of control. I would therefore clean. This appeared to divert my attention from all the unfavorable things going on inside the house’s central air conditioning. I simply became a person who demands a tidy, organized environment over the years. That is true both inside my home’s air conditioning and in my office. So no, the kids are aware that everything has a place and that we all clean up after ourselves in addition to helping with weekly cleaning tasks. The air duct for the HVAC caught my attention during a brief break during one of those weekly cleanings. It was obviously filthy to me. I was horrified to discover that the air duct vent behind it was extremely filthy upon closer inspection. It was at that point that I learned about ductwork sealing and cleaning. I’ll tell you something else: ductwork cleaning is now an annual tradition.

Having a newfound love for my house is such a pleasure.

• The moment we first saw that house, my wife and I both fell head over heels in love with it.

We found this location after searching for a home for several months. And I mean that literally. Even though my wife was pregnant, we still left the air conditioning in the evening to go for a walk. She needed flatter ground to walk on as her pregnancy progressed. Since our apartment was located in a hilly area of town, I eventually started looking for places we could drive to. I almost fell over the for sale sign on this house as we were leaving our apartment’s somewhat inadequate central air conditioning. It was a little run-down, so if I hadn’t stopped, we might have passed it immediately. But after we called, the realtor showed us around. At first glance, there was love. The honeymoon was, however, brief due to the poor indoor air quality that was made worse when the heat pump turned on. We both quickly became dissatisfied with the smell in our home. We had to address the smells after the baby was born because the crib was another source of odors. The HVAC company employed the kind of HVAC specialists who would save us like they were relationship therapists. By transforming the house with air purification, they assisted us in falling head over heels in love with our home once more. The best indoor air quality is now produced by the whole-house air purification system using only clean air and invigorating scents.
