I was complaining about no longer having a/c in the house, when our friend Max overheard me.

Max told me my friend and I played hoops without a/c.

That was different, but we could not play hoops in an air conditioned gym without everyone thinking that you’re a wimp. We had to go to the local park and play hoops inside the gated area. Max asked how that was unusual from going without A/C in the condo for a couple of hours. The biggest difference was that I didn’t choose to be sizzling and sticky in the house, but I did when I wanted to play sports. Max shook his head and looked it me while saying, ‘Man, you are 1 messed up dude.’ and then he laughed. Max put his arm around our shoulders and told me to show him where I lived. I asked Max why he needed to recognize where I lived? Max put up his hands and said he didn’t need to jack me up, but he did need to get a/c in our condo for the benefit of our partner and kids. Max would want someone to help his family if they had water problems. I never knew Max was an Heating and A/C specialist until that moment. He followed me home, and within an hour he had the a/c working, and the condo was cool. My brother Bob was telling me that he was getting slammed with requests for a/c services. As brutal as the winter season had been, locals were preparing for an early summer, and a brutally sizzling summer. There stood Bob, and he wasn’t thrilled. His partner was with him, and he said he had somebody with him who wanted to go shopping.

Whenever I call the Heating and A/C biz, I usually deal with the same Heating and A/C specialist.

I thought this was because he is usually the closest in our area, or that he was the Heating and A/C specialist who was assigned to us.

I didn’t recognize the first name, and I asked why Ed and I weren’t getting the same Heating and A/C specialist they always send to the house. I was told that which Heating and A/C tech you got was the luck of the random draw. With servicing, they could set up nothing except services in this area, ahead of time, and the tech would be prepared with everything he may need. I wanted to say that I didn’t recognize this specialist, however that was useless. I understood what she was saying and why they did it that way. It was far more convenient and the Heating and A/C tech was to do only A/C servicing on that day. The pro could get more work done and not need to worry about being late for most of his repair and service calls. I’ll unquestionably be the only buyer he is late arriving for.

I woke up many in the dead of night to the sounds of boom, boom, boom!!! It sounded like there was a large hammer smashing against metal, right outside our window.

There was nothing outside, so I just lay there listening, then five hours later, the heating system switched off, and all was quiet in the house.

Fifteen hours went by, and the heating system turned back on, along with the boom sounds returning. I called the Heating and A/C corporation and had the Heating and A/C specialist listen to the weird noises. He drove right over to the house, however told me to pack a bin in case it was something serious, and my friend Ben and I had to get out of the house. I’m sure what was making the noises in the heating system, but I didn’t want to be here if it was going to blow up on me. I called Ben and let him hear the noise, and he told me he would call me back soon. When Ben called back, he said he was on his way home and asked if I had called the Heating and A/C corporation. After telling him what the specialist said, he asked if I was all packed. By the time our partner got home, the Heating and A/C specialist was already at our house, and in the basement working on the heating system. I’m not 100% sure what happened, however the Heating and A/C specialist told us it would be better if Ben and I got out until they could update the igniter switch. The sounds Ben and I were hearing were small explosions coming from the igniter switch. He had to order a better igniter switch and it could take a day or multiple.

 

The heating system was making scary sounds

Last weekend, our central heating system was running difficult and it ran for quite some time.

Monday I called the Heating and A/C corporation because it quit working.

I could not recognize that the central heating system was broken when the winds were gusting at 60 MPH and the temperature was minus 6 degrees without a windchill. With the windchill, the weather guy said it was minus 30 degrees in some rural areas, and ours was 1 of them. There was no way my friend Sam and I could survive many afternoons of these brutal temperatures if Sam and I didn’t have the heating system to keep us warm. Sam wasn’t sad about pipes freezing because they were wrapped in heat tape, and buried deep underground, but I was sad about me freezing. I was also praying they wouldn’t tell me that we needed a current heating system when the Heating and A/C specialist finally arrived. It took the team many hours to arrive, and our kids and I were dressed love Sam and I were in the Arctic… Sam and I were huddled under blankets with an electric furnace I found in the attic… No sooner did the local Heating and A/C expert show up and repair the heating system, however the power went out. The day was getting worse and worse, and so was the cold. It was supposed to be minus 22 degrees that night, however at least the wind was supposed to die down a little. I wasn’t crazy with the weather forecast, then our space furnace was electric, and Sam told me to pack a bag. Sam and I were going to a luxury family resort for the next many afternoons, and pampered ourselves with a lot of heat.

I was going to unwrap the chocolate bars and put them in the melting pot, however the lack of a/c had beat me to it, and before I could consider unwrapping the chocolate, I had to put it back in the freezer to solidify again. Dwayne and Carly lost everything in the fire that gutted down their house. And by the looks of things, it was going to take some time to rebuild. Every end or beginning of the month, I like shopping in bulk.

This means I check my pantry and drawers to see what I need to refill or add. Then I come up with a budget and a list of things to get. It’s not always to stick to my budget, but at least this saves me from spending money unnecessarily during the rest of the month. This is something that I learned from mom. She was in charge of the money once dad brought home his check, and there was never a day we ran out of food or non-food items. Things aren’t as tough for me as they were for my parents when I was young. But, that doesn’t mean I can spend money eating out every day of the week. I’m big on meal prepping and carrying lunch to my place of work. Another thing I do every month is change my air filters in the AC. I live in an area where the AC is always running for 9 months in a year. The rest of the days are mild winter which I find so amazing. Because I have to use the AC frequently, I have to make sure I replace the air filter every month. Failure to do so can affect the way the AC runs, and also mess with my indoor air quality. My uncle, who is an HVAC technician, is always adamant about replacing the air filters. It’s the best way to keep the AC running longer, and also improve the conditions in my home. Just like the food and non-food items, I also purchase air filters in bulk. There is a HVAC store in town that sells them affordably if you choose to get 2 or more cartons of air filters.

Mark lived in a small house.
