I was hosting a party recently and my plumbing was a mess. Someone used the bathroom and flushed. Minutes later water started coming into my hallway from the toilet. My shower had dirty water in it. It was so gross and embarrassing. Thankfully my brother was at the party and helped me look into the plumbing issue. I thought maybe it might have been an issue with my drain line. My brother and I went out into the yard and there was no standing water. There was no stinky smell indicating there was something wrong with the septic tank. I then tried plunging the water down the drains but nothing happened. I had my brother help me look into my septic tank and then into my toilet drainage. I found no sort of blockage. I eventually had to dispense with the party since nobody could use the bathroom. My house was starting to smell and my girlfriend was freaking out about no water. I called for emergency plumbing services and the guy came right over. It was nice having a professional look at it. The issue was just a full septic tank. The guy came out the next morning and pumped it. I then cleaned my hallway, toilet and shower. After that, everything was back in business like normal. It was a total shock at how much a septic tank being full can impact my life. I will be more on top of it with plumbing related issues. Dealing with dirty, stinky water was really awful.

When you’re a native of this area, there are some things that you can share to help out the newcomers.

Now, I’ve also had new neighbors that wanted none of my help and that’s fine. But I’ve also seen those same people load up the moving truck and head back where they came from after one summer. For some, this region is just too hot in the summer no matter the amount of air conditioning. These folks come down here thinking that we have perfect weather all the time. We do have near perfect weather for 8 months of the year. But from June through September, the heat and humidity can be overwhelming. I’m from here and know nothing but this type of weather and it can be a bit much for me come August. But one of the things I try to relate to newcomers is a common sense approach to air conditioning. I often hear folks that are new to the area complain about how much they’re spending on air conditioning. For sure, without some type of plan to moderate the thermostat setting, all that air conditioning can get very expensive, very fast. I always suggest a common sense approach that starts with leaving the air conditioning off in the spring. Most people reach for the thermostat once the temperatures are in the mid eighties. I recommend waiting as long as possible before leaving the air conditioning on. I tried to get into May before the air conditioning stays on. After that, I make sure that the thermostat is never more than 15 degrees lower than the hottest temperature outside.

Our heat pump is enjoying its quiet period. We live far enough south that we just don’t have much demand for heating from the heat pump. There are a few times during the winter when the temps drop and it gets chilly in the house. But honestly, we have a space heater that makes pretty quick work of that. So we pretty much leave the heat pump off during the winter. That’s about to change though. Spring comes quick to this region and I’m already noticing the first signs. It won’t be long before our heat pump is actually producing air conditioning night and day. Of course, we do our best to wait as long as we can in order to acclimate to the heat a bit. Getting adjusted to the heat and humidity makes it a bit easier for getting through the summer. Otherwise, I tend to just go from one space with air conditioning to another space with air conditioning. And we live in too beautiful a spot not to get outside during the summer. But this year, I really want to reduce the load on the heat pump. To that end, I’m going to seal up the house as tight as possible. All I had to do was go to the HVAC company website to find a checklist for getting our home prepared for summer. The tighter the house, the less demand is placed on the heat pump. Additionally, we have a smart thermostat that is much more precise when it comes to managing all that cooling. This year, we’re adding some mechanical solar shades that actually sync with the smart thermostat. I want to get as much longevity from my heat pump as I can so lightening the load a bit is an important step.

It’s been about 6 months since I started working as an apprentice with my uncle.

My uncle is a roofing contractor. He has had his own business for the last 10 years. He works on residential and commercial roofing services. He can handle tile services, foam insulation services, and underlayment. The guy can do it all and he has a great name in town. If you look online for a roofing contractor in the city, my uncle’s website comes up in the top search results. When I lost my job working at the freight company, my dad talked to my uncle to see if he could get me a job. My uncle was excited to hear that I was interested in being a roofing contractor. He took me out to lunch and we talked about the different types of jobs that he can handle and the responsibilities that would be mine from day to day. It sounded like a lot of fun and I would get to work outside. When I worked at the freight company, I was indoors all day and barely got to see the sun. Working as a roofing contractor means being outside most of the time. It’s been about 6 months since I started working as an apprentice with my uncle. So far I have learned a lot about roofing. I can install a brand new phone roof and handle a recoat all by myself. I can also replace shingles, tiles, and handle the underlayment. In 6 months I’ve learned a lot of skills and in another 6 months I might be ready to take my certification test.

Our business has expanded a lot over the past couple of years, and now we have decided that we are going to be building a new building to support all of the growth that we have been experiencing. We are all really excited about our new adventure in the new building that we are in the process of planning, but there are a lot of things that have to get done. My wife and I have worked really hard to build up our business, and now everything seems to be coming to fruition for us. I am the only one in the business who has ever done any kind of construction work before, so I have ended up being my own general contractor for the new building. A friend of mine has been needing to get dental implants for a couple of years now.

• I am not really sure why she has not done it yet, unless it has something to do with finances.

I don’t know if she has dental insurance to help cover the cost of dental implants, but she really needs to get something done. She ended up losing one of her front teeth a while back and she still does not have it replaced. I feel really bad for her because of the fact that she has lost one of her front teeth. She never smiles anymore because she is so sensitive about the fact that her smile looks bad. I was talking to her the other day about the cost of dental implants and she told me that they just could not afford it at this point. I feel like there should really be some help out there for people who need to get dental implants put in. I don’t think that the cost of dental implants should be so expensive that people who need them can’t get them. Dental care is one of those things that is super important, but I don’t think that most people really realize how important it is. I wish that I can help my friend with the cost of dental implants. I know that it’s really expensive, but we don’t really have any extra money at this point right now either. Maybe when the economy gets better, I can help her out. Or even better, maybe she will have better insurance by then.

I was upstairs taking care of the baby while the HvAC technician was working on my furnace.

Once I got the bay settled down, I went downstairs to check on the HVAC technician.

I could hear him working in the furnace room, but I didn’t see him. After half an hour, the noise downstairs quit, but he wasn’t coming upstairs. I went to the door to check on him, but I couldn’t see him anywhere. I decided to go into the basement, and wished I hadn’t. The HVAC technician was sitting in the corner, knocked out cold. I tried to rouse him, but he wasn’t budging. He was breathing, but he had a gash on his head. I called the HVAc company, who called an ambulance. The owner of the HVAC company showed up first, and said it looked like he went to stand up and hit his head o n the ductwork. I still had metal ductwork in my basement, and there were some sharp edges. He had a large gash on his temple that split the skin from his eye to his ear. I felt guilty, but the owner of the HVAC company told me it happened sometimes. It was a danger that came with the work. Once the ambulance showed up and took the HvAC technician away, the owner of the HvAC company called a professional cleaning company to clean up the mess in the basement. He didn’t want me to clean up the blood.I felt bad about the HVAc technician being injured, but I was grateful to have the professional cleaners cleaning up the blood. It was making me sick.

When the HVAC technician got out of his service van, he was looking around the backyard.

• I walked out and asked if I could help him.

He said he was checking to see where the new pad was for the air conditioning unit. He showed me his HVAC ID badge, but it didn’t say HVAC technician. He was an HVAC contractor. I wanted to know when they started sending contractors out to do a simple air conditioning unit inspection. He said he was there to make arrangements for a new HVAC system. He looked at the address and asked if this was us. It was, but that wasn’t why I called the HVAC company. I wondered if he had some inside information I wasn’t aware of. I told him I only needed an inspection done. He shrugged and said he was an HVAC technician before he got his contractor’s license and he could do an inspection, but he wanted to know if I was sure I didn’t want a new HVAC system. I told him my HVAC system was only five years old, and it wasn’t necessary. He called into his office and gave them the address. Someone had handed him the wrong paperwork, and he had to track down the HVAC technician who was going to do an inspection at a house that needed new HVAc. I laughed when he told me that while he was there, he was going to do the inspection. He needed to get back to his roots every once in a while. Ten minutes later, the HVAC technician arrived, and we were all laughing over the mix up.

I live in an section where the A/C is always running for 9 weeks in a year. The rest of the days are mild Wintertide which I find so amazing. Because I have to use the A/C frequently, I have to make sure I upgrade the air filter every week. Failure to do so can affect the way the A/C runs, and also mess with our air quality; My aunt, who is an Heating & A/C professional, is always adamant about replacing the air filters. It’s the best way to keep the A/C running longer, and also improve the conditions in our home, however just prefer the food and non-food items, I also purchase air filters in bulk. I’ve been a member at the same gym for nearly twenty years. I was one of the first people to sign up for a membership. Over the years the fees have gradually increased. I don’t mind because the amenities have also improved. Since the gym initially opened, there have been huge improvements in fitness machines and technology. I am very thankful that the gym keeps up with this progress. I always have access to the latest innovations. I could never afford to purchase the most modern, top-of-the-line treadmill for my personal use. Through my membership, I have access to over twenty treadmills. There are also all different types of stationary bikes, ellipticals, rowing machines and stairmasters available. An entire section of the gym is devoted to strength training machines that target all the different muscle groups. There is a specific machine for biceps and another for triceps. I can utilize incline benches to get more out of abdominal crunches. I like to take advantage of different training opportunities, such as climbing a rock wall, hitting a punching bag or using the battle ropes. Along with all of the equipment, the gym offers all different styles of group classes offered every day of the week at various times. I’ve taken yoga, pilates, HIIT, aerobics and boot camp and enjoyed each one. I like having access to tanning beds, saunas, steam rooms and a hot tub. I can make an appointment to get a massage. The gym is very much like a mini vacation for me. I have the opportunity to focus on my health and fitness, clear my head and get out from under the stress of everyday obligations. I always leave the gym feeling refreshed.
