It was a windy night, plus then something honestly odd occurred, then when the air conditioner suddenly went rogue, I, the artificial intelligence, was monitoring the A/C system in peace, everyone in the building began to tremble with apprehension as the cool air changed into a chilly storm. What’s going on, I wondered, so I launched a diagnostic instantly to identify the issue. The A/C system has been hacked, according to the findings! Who would act in such a manner? I made emergency contact with an A/C professional to have them come and solve the issue. But, it was late at night and he was sound asleep, snoring. I had to find a way to wake him up and get him to the building. That’s when I had an idea! I would use the furnace to save the day! I cranked up the heat to full blast, creating a sizable heat wave that traveled all the way to the A/C worker’s house. He woke up dripping with sweat profusely and thought he was having a nightmare. But, I abruptly told him that it was no dream and that I needed his help. He rushed to the building and got to work fixing the hacked A/C system. After a few minutes of difficult work, the worker fixed the problem, and the air conditioner was back to normal. The cool breeze returned, and most people in the building breathed a sigh of relief. I had saved the day with my quick thinking, and the worker had saved the day with his knowledge. So, the next time you’re feeling a little chilly or hot, remember that I am always watching and ready to take action. And, if you need a worker, just give me a call, and I shall make sure they get there ASAP, even if I have to create a heat wave to wake them up!

Monitoring the A/C system

Chip was the best A/C worker in the land, always up for a challenge no matter how windy it got up there. One day, Chip was fixing a big, old A/C unit on top of a building when he heard some noise. It was the sound of children giggling and talking as if they were watching something fun. Chip looked around and saw a little girl named Jasmine and his friends watching Aladdin on a TV through a window. Chip honestly did not know her name was Jasmine but she was dressed up as her. Now, Chip loved Aladdin as much as the next guy, even though he knew she had a job to do. So, he put on her work gloves, grabbed his tools, and got back to work. He climbed up on the rooftop and began tinkering away at the old A/C unit. It wasn’t easy, but Chip was determined. He fixed the wiring and upgraded some broken parts and before she knew it, the A/C unit was running like new. Chip smiled and wiped the sweat from her forehead. He then looked over at Jasmine and her friends, who were still glued to the TV. Chip waved at them and said, “Hey kids, how about we turn off the TV plus like this fresh, cool air that my repaired A/C unit is now pumping out?” Jasmine and her friends looked at Chip with amazement. They did not know that A/C repairmen were such heroes! They thanked Chip plus started to play on the rooftop, enjoying the cool breeze. And from that day on, Chip was known as the superhero of the rooftop. He saved the day, one A/C unit at a time.

Geez, it was hotter than a jalapeño in July when I decided to crank up the air conditioner.

I rushed over to the unit and it looked like the pipes were frozen solid. I was totally freaking out, so I called up the heating plus cooling men and they sent over an A/C worker. This guy was a tall, skinny fella with a sizable mustache that looked like it was about to freeze over too. He took one look at the air conditioner and shook his head like it was gonna be a total disaster. I watched as he started fiddling with it and muttering under his breath. He pulled out the air filter and gave me this disgusted look. “When’s the last time you changed this thing?” he asked me. I was like, “I dunno, a few weeks ago maybe?” He repeated my answer like I was the dumbest lady he’d ever met. “A few weeks ago? This thing is clogged up with dirt plus dust, no wonder the pipes froze.” I felt like a total idiot for not changing the dang air filter more often. The worker kept tinkering with the A/C unit and cursing under his breath. It was apparent he was having a rough day. After a couple of minutes, he finally got the air conditioner working again. As he was getting ready to leave, I asked him how much I owed him. He just grinned and said, “Twenty bucks plus a promise to change your air filter more often.” I was also pretty relieved to be getting out of the city soon where the below uneven temperatures outside won’t be an issue. I might even have to stop by Aunt Lucy’s location for some of her famous hot cocoa.

We knew we needed to do a lot of work on the house when we moved in.

We bought a fixer-upper, wanting to remodel the house to suit our needs.

We didn’t think the work would need to be done as soon as we moved in, or we would have waited to move in the following spring. There was such a draft that went through the house, you would have thought the wind was blowing inside instead of outside. We realized there was no insulation in the walls, and the furnace couldn’t keep up with it. Within two months, we had to have work done on the furnace, but the repairs would not make much difference until we had the walls insulated, and the windows replaced. The price of oil had risen drastically, and our entire budget was being spent on fuel for the furnace. My husband and I talked about calling a contractor and having them install insulation in the house, and moving into an apartment while the windows were being replaced. We needed insulation throughout the entire house, new doors, and new windows. We couldn’t afford an apartment. My mother called and asked how the house was, and I burst out crying. I told her the furnace was running constantly, and it was still cold in the house. I worried about what was going to happen in the summer with the air conditioning. She invited my husband and I to stay with her while the work was being done. At least we had excellent heating and air conditioning for the next five months.

My husband had a tin roof put on the house last year, and I hate it.

The tin roof rattles with the wind and the rain, and it is very eerie.

I wished I hadn’t agreed with his idea of a tin roof. He kept telling me how soothing it was to hear the rain on the roof, but I find nothing soothing about it. When I can hear the wind rattling the roof, I get cold. I want to turn up the thermostat and get it warmer in the house. I asked if they hadn’t insulated beneath the tin roof, and he shrugged. He said they should have, but the noise was just part of the charm of the tin roof. I wanted to know if there was insulation. If there was no insulation, it was going to be hot this summer, and it would never get warm in the house. After complaining about lack of insulation, and how much heating and air conditioning we were losing, he called the roofing company. The man who owned the company told my husband we hadn’t paid for insulation. I couldn’t believe what they said. Insulation was something you always did before putting roofing on a house. I called my dad and asked him if the insulation was optional. Dad had been a roofer for years, and he said it was optional if you didn’t know what you were doing. He said we would have a lot of heat loss, and the air conditioning would run constantly if there was no insulation beneath the tin roof. My husband told them he wanted them to remove the tin roof and put insulation beneath, or he wasn’t paying another penny for the roof.

Because of the shoddy workmanship of the house, and the previous owners ignoring it, the wind always made the house feel colder inside than it was outside.

I had wood-burning stoves in the house that seldom kept it warm enough. I worked all summer long to get wood to keep the stoves running, but I always ran out in February. Last year, I took out a home improvement loan and started working in the house. I had all the windows replaced, and insulation placed on the walls and in the ceiling. I didn’t want to have any heat loss. Once the home improvements were complete, I got rid of the wood-burning stoves. I wanted a complete HVAC system. Never having done hom improvements before, I knew nothing about when to have the HVAC system installed. I didn’t want to rip the walls out to install ductwork, so I asked the HVAC company what else I could do. He told me about the ductless HVAC system. I ordered a 20 SEER ductless HVAC system. It took less than two days to have the HVAC system installed, and it took minor work. I couldn’t believe how warm and comfortable my home now was. I had heat in the winter, and air conditioning in the summer, and very little mess to show for it. I wished I had thought of doing this before I moved into the house, but it was a learning curve. If I ever move again, I’ll know what to do instead of roughing it out without formal HVAC.

Being a first-time homeowner, I knew very little about home maintenance.

My parents had always rented their home, because dad didn’t enjoy doing home maintenance.

He said that as long as they rented, the landlord would always be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. I wanted to own my home. I remember times when the landlord would walk into the house unannounced so he could make sure the house was clean. He would often call and tell dad he was thinking of selling the house, just to see what dad’s reaction would be. I didn’t want to live this way. I wanted to be in control of my home, and not have anyone telling me what I could or could not do while living there. Mom and dad almost got evicted one year because they had a New Year’s Eve party the landlord hadn’t okayed. My only problem with being a first-time homeowner and always living in a rental home was that I knew nothing about home maintenance. I had to count on professional to do all the upkeep. My biggest question was when do you prepare the AC unit for summer, and the furnace for winter? I didn’t want to go without air conditioning or a furnace. I called the HVAC company, and they sent me information to read that told all about preparedness for poor weather. It talked about inspections for the HVAC system. It also had an application if I wanted to sign up for a maintenance and repair plan. I’ll be spending some time reading the paperwork and checking out the HVAC website.

I ran into this Italian girl this morning yet again. I think she is new in town and I keep seeing her here and there. The only problem with talking to her is she speaks no English. I saw her this morning when I was going to go for a swim and spoke a bit to her in Spanish, but my Spanish is pretty limited so there wasn’t much to say. This is the problem I am having trying to meet a lady in this town, my Spanish is the same level as a three year old kid. The local business offers free classes in Spanish, but I am so unmotivated to learn the language that I keep putting it off and end up just sitting at home alone with my air purifier keeping me company. I guess it will reach the point where I am alone for so long that I either break down and learn the language, or just give up totally on trying to meet someone or learn the language. I had my oil furnace repaired the other day and could hardly tell the HVAC tech what the problem was. I guess if I had something to motivate me to learn the language I could do so, but so far I have just been putting it off for many years. I am going to turn on my radiant heated floors now because my feet are so cold they are numb, and that is even with having them next to a space heater trying to warm them up a bit.

I have to take care of my flat so that I don’t lose my deposit when I move out.

• The only problem I have is my cats tearing up the sofa with their kneading every day.

I may end up having to buy a new sofa when I move out, but I think I can get one for maybe $200 on this app that sells used furniture. The other option is to cover the sofa with a big sheet because it isn’t yet damaged to the point where it needs to be tossed out. My zone control HVAC system has really saved me a lot of money over the years and if I have to buy a new sofa before I move out then I guess it isn’t that big of a deal, seeing how much cash I’ve saved with the good heating and cooling unit in my flat. I may stay here for ten more years so maybe it really won’t matter having to buy a new sofa if the cats have destroyed it beyond use. I got the cats from this HVAC supplier one day when she found them behind the HVAC company. There were about seven babies and they managed to save them all and get them to some really nice people. I have two of the babies and they usually sleep on my air purifier in the living room because it makes a humming noise that puts them to sleep. I like these cats as they are really mellow and hardly make a sound all day long.

My hands get really cold when I go for a ten minute dip in the cold sea, and I like to warm them up with a pot of hot water.

I soak them for about ten minutes and then they are pretty much good to go for the rest of the day.

I don’t know why my hands and feet are so cold, but it has been this way for a long time and I just have to deal with it. I have the heat on now for a few minutes so that it helps to keep my hands warm. Heating is really important in the winter because my feet get really cold if I don’t run the furnace as we don’t have heated floors in this flat. It is a lot better than the last flat I lived in where the whole place would be cold for the whole winter because we had no heat in the place. This flat has central heating and air conditioning, and even though it costs me about two hundred bucks more a month it is well worth not feeling miserable the whole time I am at home working or relaxing. I went a couple of winters with just a little space heater, which was a pain because I had to drag it from room to room to heat each one up. I am much happier living in this newer flat and will try and stay here for many more years to come. The heating supplier where I work is just a five minute walk from my flat too.

I have had a sore throat from allergies for six days now and I think it should be going away pretty soon. The weather has been really windy lately and a lot of dust and pollen got stirred up in this town and made my allergies come back. At least now I have more energy than when it started last Friday, which is probably because I started taking allergy medicine. I normally don’t have any allergies like this, but when the wind blows really hard like it has been it can stir up a lot of allergies again. The local business sells medicine at a pretty good price and they have a nice space heater in the waiting area to keep everyone warm. I like to hang out there and talk with the people working in the place because they are some really nice people. I went there last year because they had a fireplace in the front room that you could sit next to, which was great for heating yourself up on those cold winter days. So today I am going to get my work done and meet my friend at 1pm to do a short workout routine. Then I will come home and get more of my work done around the house, which is mainly going to be doing my yoga routine and cooking a good eggplant parmesan dinner for my flatmate and I. She works at the HVAC company where I work and we both do a lot of ductless HVAC sales to the people in town.

Yesterday was an exciting day, I got to buy a new kind of cat litter for my two cats.

The old cat litter was getting scattered all over the flat each day from my bigger cat FatBoy, as he is a long haired cat and the litter would stick to his hair.

This new one looks more like crystals of ice and it doesn’t seem to stick to his hair, but I need to see how well it works and then go from there. I just don’t like having to clean up the cat litter from the floors, air purifier, and countertops like it has been for the past few months with that litter. I think the new one is going to work out just fine. Today I will go to the local business and grab some spelt bread and make a good sandwich for lunch while I clean my HVAC system out afterwards. I stopped watching my stock because it just keeps dropping and has become depressing to look at. It is an HVAC company stock I bought and I just need to wait because in two weeks they will open a new heating and cooling dealership and will start selling their new heating systems, which should boost the price of the stock a lot hopefully. I will probably have to hold this stock for a few years till I recoup all the money that I have lost so far. They make some really neat geothermal heat pumps and some cool smart thermostats and I think with time it will really do well.
