I can’t believe that it’s now a criminal trend to rip off residential HVAC equipment. And it’s not like the thieves are actually taking expensive HVAC components either. No, this crowd of criminals is simply destroying residential HVAC equipment in order to get their hands on small amounts of copper. That seems completely insane to me. I mean if you're going to go to the trouble of stealing why would you only settle for HVAC copper fittings? But as I understand it, these folks are super desperate and are not sophisticated enough to find a buyer for stolen HVAC components. Instead, they can take the copper fittings from the HVAC equipment straight to a black market buyer. But the thing is, even when they're selling what little amount of copper they get from the HVAC fittings , they're still getting pennies on the dollar for what it's worth. I can't imagine being desperate enough to destroy an HVAC cabinet for maybe twenty five dollars worth of copper. But then again, I don't have an addiction problem and so I really can't even begin to understand that perspective. But the problem I do have is trying to make sure that this doesn't happen to my HVAC equipment. To that end, I went online and found cages that can fit over HVAC equipment and be bolted to the concrete pad. I ordered one of these HVAC cages and it should be here very soon. It's still hard for me to believe that I'm actually having to lock down the HVAC equipment alongside my house.
